Where to go pumpkin picking in Hertfordshire for 2024

Where to go pumpkin picking in Hertfordshire for 2024

There’s an ever-increasing number of places to go pumpkin picking in Hertfordshire. Some farms set aside a field for a bumper pumpkin harvest, while other farms and activity centres offer pumpkin carving and Halloween trails.

In this article, I’ve detailed the best pumpkin patches in Hertfordshire along with some pumpkin spots just over the border in Essex, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. We live on the eastern side of Hertfordshire so I’m quite tempted by some of the pumpkin patches in Essex.

Please note, most of these farms require pre-booked tickets. Check on their websites for further details. Some tickets include the cost of your pumpkin, but others do not.

And don’t forget, pumpkins are not just for Halloween, their insides make very good soup, ravioli filling (a great way to hide it!) and various other delicious meals.

Pumpkin picking in Hertfordshire – east

Foxholes Farm, near Hertford

Foxholes Farm has a spooky Halloween trail, aimed at primary aged children. There’s no pumpkin patch but children can pick a pumpkin from the display and carve it at the farm. There’s also animals to pet, face painting, plus food and drink available to purchase.

Ensure you save a bit of time to wander through their farm shop – it has lots of delicious things to buy. We always visit at Christmas time – it’s a good place to stock up on cheese!

Dane End Christmas Tree Farm, near Ware

This is a new pumpkin patch near me and as no booking is required, I might try cycling here with my kids during half term (click here for more Herts cycling ideas!).

Cammas Hall Farm, near Bishop’s Stortford

Cammas Hall is a pick your own pro, attracting lots of visitors during the summer fruit picking season. Autumn sees their attention turn to pumpkins and squash. There’s a month-long Halloween experience with spooky characters, a maize maze and over 60 varieties of gourds to choose from.

Church Farm Ardeley, near Stevenage

I love this back to basics farm near Walkern. No matter the weather, there is always lots of mud. I have very fond memories of visiting Church Farm when my boys were little.

For Halloween, visitors can pick a pumpkin from Church Farm’s pumpkin patch and then carve it on site – all tools provided.

There are animals to feed and spooky-themed walking trails to follow plus ride-on tractors and various other attractions.

Hitchin Lavender Farm pumpkin patch

This photogenic spot is a big hit in summer when the hillside is awash with purple blooms. It’s great to see that this lavender farm, though not so dramatic by autumn, has a new purpose – acting as a ghostly backdrop to their pumpkin patch.

There are lots of different pumpkins and squash to choose from plus food and drink stalls for refreshments.

Standalone Farm, Letchworth

This is one of our favourite local farms – it has a particularly good playground which our kids always loved when they were little. The pumpkin experience has to be booked in conjunction with entry to the farm – it’s a lovely day out. Children get 20 minutes to pick out a pumpkin and then 40 minutes to carve their chosen pumpkin with a member of staff assisting with scooping out the innards.

The price is higher than other destinations listed in this article but you get quite a bit more for your money – adventure playground, funfair rides, tractor rides, inflatables, a pumpkin hunt plus photo opportunities in the “gourd grotto”.
